CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE

ANGEL TREE PROGRAM 2018

Along with Red Kettles and Bell Ringers, the Angel Tree is one of The Salvation Army’s most recognizable holiday programs.  Its purpose is to connect caring donors with local families who are struggling to put Christmas presents under the tree for their children due financial hardship.

Adopt an Angel

        • Adopt an Angel at participating locations throughout our service area.  A list of Angel Tree locations will be posted at the commencement of the holiday program.
        • Sign up your company, church, club or neighborhood group to participate in our Angel Tree Program and invite your employees or group members adopt an Angel. For more information, contact Captain Malaika Good at Malaika.good@uss.salvationarmy.org or 757-838-4875 or complete the Contact Us online form.

How Does Angel Tree Work?

Once the children have been registered in the program, angel tags are printed with that individual’s name, age, gender, gift requests and a code number.  The tags are then provided to participating organizations to be hung on their “Angel Tree”.  If you decide to host your own Angel Tree, determine how many angels you want to help and pick up the tags from a designated Angel Tree location near you.  Donors can then pull a tag from the tree to adopt an angel.

What should you purchase?

As a partner, you can do as much as you like for your angel, but we ask that you try to provide at least 2 new toys and one new outfit for each child that you adopt.  Any gifts will be appreciated.

How to prepare your gift purchases:

For safety reasons, please do not wrap any of the gifts.  Wrapping paper can be provided separately for the parent to wrap the gifts.  Do not provide a receipt unless it is a gift receipt.  Place all donations for each child into a bag and securely tape the Angel tag with the child’s unique numeric code to the bag.  Do not combine gifts for more than one angel in a bag. If there is more than one bag for an angel, tie those bags together and ensure the Angel’s tag is securely attached to the bundle.  If you purchase an item that is too large to fit into a bag, write the angel code on a piece of paper and tape it to the item.  Remove the bottom portion of the Angel Tag for tax receipt purposes.

Where to bring the gifts:

Angel Tree drop off locations are announced by The Salvation Army each year when the program commences.   Check the Events page for announcements.

How gifts are distributed:

Once all the gifts are received, Salvation Army officers, staff and volunteers sort the gifts according to the code number and prepare the gifts for distribution. Unwrapped gifts are then distributed to parents at a designated time and location.
