Eager to jump into the community, A/Captain Duane Burleigh began serving lunches from the Salvation Army mobile canteen his third day on the job. Serving lunches to the community is not new to him. He has been a part of the Summer Lunch Program for hungry children in the Winchester area for the last five years. Serving at the Winchester Salvation Army for the last five years, A/Captains Duane and Cathie Burleigh have gained vast experience of meeting community needs and spiritual needs.
The Harrisonburg Corps offers free lunch at three sites in Harrisonburg (Monday through Friday), an Emergency Shelter and various other social service programs for the local community. These efforts help serve primary commitment of the Salvation Army, which is to help meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of all people. The Burleighs will head the Harrisonburg Corps Worship and Service Center on Ashby Avenue in Harrisonburg, VA. A/Captain Burleigh will lead the center’s weekly worship service at 9:45 A.M. for Sunday School and Worship at 11:00 A.M. Services are open to the public and the community is encouraged to participate.
