Christmas Applications 2013

The Salvation Army Christmas Assistance Applications
Last Day for Applications is October 26th

Hampton Roads, VA (October 14, 2013)
– On Saturday, October 16, The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command, serving the communities of Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, will close the application process for Christmas assistance for residents of those cities.

The application process began in late August/early September when applications were mailed to local elementary schools. Applications were sent home with children for parents and guardians to complete and then return to various locations during specified dates and times. (A list of locations remaining is at the bottom of the page.) During the Write Stuff back to school supply distribution, applications were also received.

Since 2010, The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command has seen more than a 21% increase in families receiving assistance at Christmas. In that same time period, there has been a 22% increase in children benefiting from our Christmas programs with over 16,200 children receiving toys and gifts last year.

“We want to continue to serve our community and make Christmas special for as many children as possible,” said Captain Brett Meredith of The Salvation Army. “We know how important Christmas memories are and, in order to help make it possible for those in need, we need to get those applications in before the deadline.”

The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program for qualifying families will begin distribution on Saturday, December 14 and end on Saturday, December 21. During distribution, The Salvation Army will see roughly 1200 guests a day seeking toys, clothing and food.

Christmas distribution is made possible through the generous support of The Virginian-Pilot Joy Fund, United States Marines Toys for Tots and WVEC-TV 13News.
