Sharrel’s Story
H.O.P.E. Village Provides Support

HOPE Village

Sharrel, a single mother with two boys, was homeless, helpless and had nowhere left to turn. They had been spending their time moving from shelter to shelter hoping to find somewhere with an open door and bed, a safe place for her and her boys to be. It was during this difficult time that she was led to H.O.P.E. Village.

Immediately, Sharrel and her boys found a safe place to restore their lives. There were no bills for her to worry about, utilities and rent covered by the H.O.P.E. program while she got herself back on track. The boys no longer had to worry about where they would sleep. They were safe. She could truly restore herself and her boys in a wholesome environment that encouraged stability and growth. H.O.P.E. Village took a burden off of Sharrel’s shoulders. She not only had a key to her own house in the Village, but she had the freedom and assistance to look for employment.

H.O.P.E. Village creates an environment for continued growth and recognition of self-worth. The women in the program are provided workshops during their stay such as ‘dress to impress’ seminars and résumé building programs. The women are aided in their employment search, taken to interviews and given all of the necessary help to get back on their feet.

In Sharrel’s words, “I am so grateful to The Salvation Army and H.O.P.E. Village… This is more than I could ever ask for.”

This is just one of our treasured family stories. We share this with you because the H.O.P.E. Village program is not just a place to lay your head, it’s a neighborhood focused on renewal. It is comfort, inspiration and home. It is HOPE.

H.O.P.E Village is another tool The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command uses to help suffering women and children in our community. Please help us support those in need by signing up for our pledge program. Thanks to your contributions of time, money and resources, The Salvation Army is “Doing the Most Good.”
