Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Hampton Roads Area Commander, the Executive Director, and the indirect supervision of the Divisional Development Director the Area Command Director of Development plans, develops, administers, leads, and directs the Development Department for the Hampton Roads Area Command operations which includes: Donor Services, Marketing & Public Relations, Major Gifts (individuals, corporations and foundations), Volunteers, Special Events and Fundraising; directs the selection, training, and supervision of all staff responsible for performing the daily operational duties of the Development Department; plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of resource development strategies; ensures the highest level of quality in ongoing donor solicitation and recognition programs; monitors to ensure that the financial resources for facilities and programs are available to meet the growing need of the consumers that The Salvation Army serves.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure. Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and business management and supervision. Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same. Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of grant administration. Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing fund-raising and taxation. Ability to solicit and close gift agreements in compliance with The Salvation Army’s policies as well as local, state, and federal legislation. Ability to plan develops and coordinates programs, meetings, and special events related to public relations and fundraising. Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets. Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a variety of fund-raising strategies in order to determine their effectiveness in achieving short and long range goals. Ability to develop and administer a fund-raising budget. Ability to provide leadership to peers and subordinate fund-raising staff. Ability to supervise, leads, motivates, monitor, and evaluate employees. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, member of advisory organizations and the community.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or a related field,

And

Ten years’ experience in a comprehensive development program with progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising

Or

Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses & Certifications

Valid Driver’s License
NSFRE Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary

Assists in the preparation and serving of all meals and maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen; works with other staff to assist the clients in having a variety of positive nutritional experiences; ensures all kitchen work is performed in compliance with USDA regulations and health codes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of cleaning practices, methods, and techniques.  Ability to assist in the preparation and presentation of meals.  Ability to wash dishes and kitchen appliances.  Ability to clean kitchen and dining area.

Education and Experience

One year experience working in a kitchen preferred OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.

Job Title: Lifeguard

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Seasonal Lifeguard for the Hampton Roads Area Command Kroc Center located in Norfolk, VA.

Job Summary

The Lifeguard ensures that the aquatic operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures. Aquatic Lifeguard is an hourly position, which may be designed full-time, part-time, or as needed.  Under the direction and supervision of the Lead Life Guard, the Lifeguard observes swimmers, protects life, prevents accidents, enforces regulations, and does related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices particular to the department’s administration.  Knowledge of general office principles, practices and procedures.  Ability to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.  Ability to plan and complete work in a manner to ensure compliance with deadlines.  Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public; work cooperatively with others; analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; and maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.  Must be able to lift and carry 40lbs.  Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the center’s swimming pools.  Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and The Salvation Army.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Licenses and Certifications

Current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid or First Aid For Public Safety Personnel (Title22), CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), and Lifeguard Training. Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.  Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work.  Maintain a variety of internal and external contacts and work cooperatively with superior and subordinate staff.  Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.  Must be at least 16 years of age.  Must have the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance. Must successfully tread water with a brick for 5 minutes.  Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education including but not limited to:  Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to people of all ages, Sensitivity to individual needs, Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently, Dependable, Ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly, Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
