Thanksgiving

Last year, The Salvation Army revived our Thanksgiving Day feeding program with plans to continue in 2013. We served a Thanksgiving meal from 10am to 1pm at three locations, The Salvation Army Norfolk Corps (5516 Raby Road), Portsmouth Corps (2306 Airline Boulevard), and Men’s Hope Center Shelter in Norfolk (203 West 19th Street). We also served meals from our mobile kitchen at locations in Virginia Beach and Portsmouth. A total of 843 individuals were served with support from more than 460 volunteers.

Help Stock our Shelves

It is difficult for many families to imagine celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas without a warm meal to share with their family. However, there are numerous families in our own community who know this situation first hand. Together with your help, The Salvation Army truly gives these families in need something to be thankful for by providing food during the Christmas holidays, as well as, throughout the year.

The Salvation Army needs your help to stock our shelves. Get your school, business, church or youth group to collect food for The Salvation Army’s Food Pantry.

Some suggested non-perishable items are:

Canned Fruit/Vegetables/tomato sauces/beans
Canned Meats (ie: tuna, chicken, spam)
Rice
Pasta
Peanut Butter/Jelly/sauces/dressings
Cereal – Breakfast Items
Canned Meals (ravioli, chili, hamburger helper, etc)
Spaghetti sauce
Baking goods: sugar, flour, cake mixes, cookie kits, etc
