Recognizing the selfless service and impact that Joshua P. Darden made in our community, our scholarship fund continues a legacy of lending a hand to our fellow man. Joshua P. Darden dedicated much of his lifetime towards service to others and bettering Hampton Roads. The Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center might not have come into fruition had it not been for Mr. Darden’s effort. He led a $26 million dollar endowment campaign, ensuring that The Kroc Center could serve the community for many generations.
“I thought I had retired from fundraising, but this project was too intriguing and way too important to the community not to succeed,” said Mr. Darden. Sadly, Mr. Darden passed away in January 2014, just a few months before The Kroc Center would open its doors. However, his dedication will not be forgotten by the community. Our scholarship fund, created in his honor provides scholarships to The Kroc Center members in need.
“It was very important to Mrs. Kroc and to us that a lack of financial aid not stand in the way of anyone using this facility,” Darden said. “We will have a sliding membership scale and scholarship opportunities as well so that the promise of doing the most good for those in the most need may still be fulfilled.”
