For so many children in the Hampton Roads community, summer is spent inside, in front of the TV, playing video games or using electronic devices. The Salvation Army Camp Happyland provides an opportunity for educational, emotional, spiritual and physical enrichment in a fun, safe, faith based environment.
Between preparing children for the school year during the Write Stuff campaign and providing gifts to those in need during Christmas through the Angel Tree program, The Salvation Army served more than 23,000 at-risk children in Hampton Roads in 2014.
The Salvation Army Summer Camps allow Hampton Roads children to attend a week-long camp where they play sports, swim, explore the outdoors and make crafts. Beyond the recreation, with the help of trained counselors, they learn how to live together with a diverse group of neighbors and learn how to address and overcome challenge in their daily lives.
Community Camp 2016 is July 18-23. The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command and The Hampton Roads Kroc Corps are now accepting applications for Summer Camp . The cost is $50 per child. Applications will all be done online this year and parents will need to come to the KROC center on Monday May 23rd anytime between 10:00am-7:00PM and bring an updated shot record. No physicals are needed this year. Please call Stacey Adkins at (757)622-5762 x.64334
