The Salvation Army is celebrating 150 years of service and ministry during its 2015 International Congress July 1-5. Thousands of Salvationists and friends from all over the world…
Did you know that The Salvation Army began in East London on 2 July 1865, founded by William and Catherine Booth? Today, our international church and charity meets human needs without discrimination in 126 countries worldwide. To honor our 150 years of service, we’re asking friends and supporters to join us to send an anniversary greeting via social media on July 2. We’re using Thunderclap, the “crowd-speaking” app to send out this message from multiple accounts at the same time.
Next week is a major holiday we observe here at The Salvation Army in the US. It’s not a religious holiday imbued with deep meaning and eternal significance. No, it’s National Donut Day on Friday June 5th.
In keeping with our tradition to honor this fine day by revering our nation’s veterans and eating donuts (surprise!), here’s a list of activities that are open to the public so you can make this holiday part of your life too!

Upcoming is our Tennis Round Robin at Oakwood Country Club. We are having a silent auction during the event where you wont want to miss your chance to purchase some amazing things. I won’t ruin the surprise of what will be there, but I will say that anyone who hates the team whose logo is a star may want to come check out what will be here.
Have a great day everyone!
Today, children from around our community took a trip to Target to buy school supplies. They were able to purchase items such as school uniforms, glue, paper, pencils, and anything you can imagine a child would need for school. The Salvation Army provided each child with a Target gift card in which the purchases were made. Any balance left over on the card was given back to The Salvation Army for future use. The children had a blast and couldn’t wait to show off all of their awesome school supplies. A little girl named Kacie couldn’t wait to show me her new Disney Princess’ lunchbox. What a joy to see the happiness in the eyes of the children. We are definitely doing the most good here.
Have you been thinking about getting more involved in your community? Do you have the heart to care for other people, but don’t know where to start? The Salvation Army is always in need of people to come and care for the people of your community. We are here 365 days a year. Don’t hesitate to call today to set up a time for you to come volunteer.
