Service Opportunity: Red Kettle Bell Ringer Days and Times: November 8 – December 24 (except Sundays and Thanksgiving). Location: Various locations throughout Fairfax County. Description: Ring the bell and spread holiday cheer while raising critical funds for The Salvation Army’s Fairfax County programs. We are encouraging individuals or groups to adopt an entire day (eight hours) to ring the bell, but shorter shifts are available as well. Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years old and be able to stand outside in winter weather for the shift. (Any youths must have an adult with them.) Event: Angel Tree Gift Sorting Days and Times: Monday, Dec. 8 – Friday, Dec. 12; two different shifts: 9am-12:30pm and 12:30pm-4pm. Description: Help organize the thousands of donated gifts for the children registered in our Angel Tree Program. Required Qualifications: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be able to withstand staying on their feet for their entire shift. Position Title: Youth Program Assistant Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school year, 4pm-6pm Position Description: Provide homework help and teach computer skills to over 30 children from local schools.
Position Title: Youth Day Coordinator Schedule: First Saturday of every month, 10am-2pm Position Description: Help pre-K to 12th grade youth participate in Christian-based scouting work that helps broaden their knowledge about the world around them through arts and crafts, field trips, recreation and numerous other fun activities.
Position Title: Janitorial Assistant Schedule: Flexible Position Description: Take out trash, vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, dust surfaces, disinfect bathrooms, organize canned goods and assist with other tasks.
Position Title: Childcare Assistant Schedule: Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm, or Fridays, 7pm-9pm Position Description: Help play with and take care of children ages 2-4 years old when their parents are in classes. Requirements: Must be at least 18 years old and have 3-5 years of experience taking care of young children.
Position Title: Music Instructor Schedule: Wednesdays, 7pm-8:30pm. A 3-month commitment is required. Position Description: Teach youth how to play various instruments during the weekly band practice. Requirements: Must have substantial experience in playing an instrument.
Position Title: Sunday Youth Instructor Schedule: Sundays, 10am-2pm Position Description: Help facilitate a Bible-based, character-building program that includes activities and games for youth.
Requirements: Must be familiar with The Salvation Army’s mission, teachings, and culture. Must have prior experience working with children.
Position Title: Youth Minister Schedule: Wednesdays, 6pm-8:30pm, Sundays, 10am-2pm, and additional youth events Position Description: Help share the Gospel with youth through a variety of structured youth programs that will enrich their spiritual lives as well as strengthen their social, mental and physical development. Requirements: Must be familiar with The Salvation Army’s mission, teachings, and culture. Preference given to a uniform-wearing Salvationist in good standing with his/her local Corps.
Position Title: Youth Program Teacher and Teacher Assistant Schedule: Wednesdays, 6pm-7pm. A 3-month commitment is required. Position Description: Teach or assist teachers in either a kindergarten, 1st-5th grade or 6th-12th grade class, where students participate in a variety of activities and games focused on the following themes: arts and crafts, outdoor living, family, culture, character-building, Salvation Army beliefs, among other topics.
