Event: School Supplies Donation Drive Days and Times: Throughout the month of August Description: Donate a new school supply item and receive a prize drawing ticket to win a basket of products and/or service from Salon Red valued at $95 or more! The more items you donate, the more prize tickets you can receive. Drop-off Location: Donations can be dropped off at Montgomery County Corps (20021 Aircraft Drive, Germantown, MD 20874) or at Salon Red (224 Main Street
Gaithersburg, MD 20878). Suggested Items Include: #2 pencils, markers, loose leaf paper (wide or college-ruled), dividers, folders, glue sticks, elementary scissors, binders, backpacks, tissues, calculators, pens, rulers, protractors, etc.
Event: Vacation Bible School Days and Times: August 4-8, 6pm-8:30pm. Description: Assist a Vacation Bible School teacher with classroom activities and interact with the students during breaks.
Long-Term Volunteer Opportunities:
Position Title: Intake Assistant Schedule: Flexible, but prefer at least 1-2 days per week for at least one 3-hour shift each day: 9am-noon or 1pm-4pm, Monday-Friday. At least a 3-month commitment is required. Position Description: Help the social services staff fulfill the needs and requests of a high volume of clients. Answer phone calls, conduct brief intakes over the phone, screen clients and schedule client meetings with staff, if appropriate.
Position Title: Administrative Assistant Schedule: At least 3 hours per week. Position Description: Assist the case management staff with establishing a new filing system for client records, organizing the office space, copying client documents and greeting clients at the reception desk.
Position Title: Youth Program Assistant Schedule: Tuesdays, 5:30pm-7:30pm. A 6-month commitment is required. Position Description: Assist leaders in either a kindergarten, 1st-5th grade or 6th-12th grade class, where students participate in a variety of activities and games focused on the following themes: arts and crafts, outdoor living, family, culture, character-building, The Salvation Army beliefs, among other topics.
Position Title: Food Pantry Assistant Schedule: Fridays 1pm-4pm. A monthly or weekly commitment is required. Position Description: Help staff pick up food from local restaurants and stores, prepare grocery bags, greet food pantry guests, and help guests carry grocery bags to their cars. Requirements: Must be capable of lifting heavy items.
Position Title: Janitorial Assistant Schedule: Flexible Position Description: Help clean the offices, bathrooms and classrooms, and assist with minor maintenance repairs.
