    Week in Review – 11/16/18

Posted November 16, 2018 By in News, Stories, Uncategorized With | No Comments

We had a busy, busy week at The Salvation Army Central Virginia Area Command! Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to lately.

    1. It was the first FULL week of this year’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Each morning, our bell ringers load into vans graciously donated by the Page Auto Group and set off to red kettles across the region — and we’re just getting started. By the time Black Friday rolls around, we’ll have about 90 kettle locations.

    2. We had visits from our friends at CBS6, NBC12 and 8News.

They helped us get the word out about the launch of kettle season and our need for more volunteers.

    3. Local real estate agent Cyndi Merritt stopped by the Angel Tree at Short Pump Town Center.

She and her videographer, Courtney, shot the latest episode of her show, “Make Yourself At Home.” We are so grateful they chose to highlight Angel Tree and our Christmas Assistance program!

    4. Check out these beautiful hand-knitted gloves, hats and scarves!

These were given to us during an ingathering at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond. We know these will help keep our neighbors in need warm as the temperatures dip. Great work!

    5. Stop and smell the roses…

Members of the Mechanicsville Christian Center Women’s Ministry swung by to drop off red roses with inspiring messages for the women staying in our shelter. What a way to brighten up an already sunny Friday! They’re getting ready for the 5th Annual Richmond Extreme Makeover, which will take place January 19, 2019.

    Looking ahead…

We have a very special Thanksgiving donation happening next week at our Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Church Hill. Look for more on that on our social media channels Tuesday!
