    Week in Review – 11/26/18

Posted November 26, 2018 By in News, Stories, Uncategorized With | No Comments

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to lately at The Salvation Army Central Virginia Area Command.

    1. We held Family Volunteer Day at the Christmas Center.

On Saturday, November 24, we held our Family Volunteer Day at the Christmas Center. We are so grateful for everyone who came out to help get our Christmas Center ready for distribution next month. Also, shout out to Richmond PhotoBooth for helping capture all the fun.

    2. Our Boys & Girls Club members received free Thanksgiving meals.

Food Lion and Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods stopped by The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Church Hill to make sure all our members were ready for Thanksgiving at home with their families. They distributed bags full of turkey, vegetables, stuffing, pies and rolls and delivered them to families as they picked their children up from the Club. Watch the video by clicking HERE. And thanks to our friends at 8News for sharing some of the photos on air!

    3. The red kettle stole the show on the football field!

If you were watching the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Redskins game on Thanksgiving Day, there’s no way you missed all the action with the red kettle. Players not only made donations on live TV, they also hopped in the kettle! “Now accepting quarterbacks and quarters…”

    4. A Boys & Girls Club alum hosted his annual ‘Kravegiving’ event for current members.

For the fifth year in a row, Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club alum Dustin Lindsay threw a pre-Thanksgiving feast for our club members. We put together this video of him explaining the inspiration behind the event he calls Kravegiving.

    5. We had another week full of help from our incredible volunteers!

The Robinson Sisters have been volunteering with The Salvation Army for about eight years. They recently covered the Angel Tree at Virginia Center Commons together and say giving back is a Thanksgiving tradition for their family. Want to volunteer with us? Looking ahead…

We will be on NBC12’s “Call 12” on Tuesday, November 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with Allianz. And don’t forget — Tuesday is also Giving Tuesday!
