We had a jam-packed week at The Salvation Army Central Virginia Area Command. From Giving Tuesday to Christmas events, we kept busy.

    1. Captains Dohmann attended the The Jefferson Hotel Tree Lighting.

Thousands of people gathered at The Jefferson Hotel Monday evening to watch the annual tree lighting. Captains Dohmann were joined by Richmond Christmas Mother, Daphne Maxwell Reid. The corps band also played for the crowd.

    2. Our supporters gave back on Giving Tuesday.

We are so grateful for all the gifts we received during Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving powered by social media and collaboration. Those gifts will stay in our community to help change the lives of our neighbors in need – whether it’s through food, shelter, education, spirituality or substance abuse recovery.

    3. We had a group walk in the 2018 Dominion Energy Christmas Parade.

Despite the rain, the Christmas spirit was alive and well along Broad Street in Richmond! We walked with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Richmond Christmas Mother, Daphne Maxwell Reid. Check out the video below for some highlights.

    4. The Salvation Army National Capital Band came to Richmond for a Christmas concert and carol sing-a-long.

A big thank you to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for hosting! Watch the video below for some sights and sounds as the band plays “Joy to the World.”

    5. Renovations continue at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club.

Storm water piping for drainage has been installed and now the grounds are being graded with topsoil added for landscaping. Preparations are also being made for areas needing concrete like the P Street circle drop off, parking spaces, sidewalks and curbing.

    Looking ahead…

Angels and Silver Bells are due Tuesday, December 4!
