    Week in Review – 12/26/18

Merry Christmas, Central Virginia! We had a busy week leading up to the holiday. Let’s catch you up on what we’ve been up to around here.

    1. Governor Ralph Northam and House Speaker Kirk Cox put politics aside and rang bells together at a red kettle in Colonial Heights.

“It is not often when the person ringing a bell for the Salvation Army is surrounded by security, assistants, television cameras and curious shoppers. Then again, it is not often you have two of the most powerful politicians in Virginia doing it, either.” – Bill Atkinson

     2. We continued (and wrapped up) our 12 Days of Christmas on social media.

If you’ve been following our Facebook page, you saw that during the dozen days leading up to the holiday, we had daily posts highlighting some of the many programs and services provided by The Salvation Army, from shelter meals to emergency disaster relief. Check it out for a closer look at how your gifts impact our community and help us carry out our mission and ministry.

     3. We celebrated Christmas with veterans.

We had a crew stop by McGuire VA Medical Center to deliver some Christmas cheer to our neighbors. Our prayers are with our veterans and their families, those who are home and those who are deployed this holiday season.

     4. Our shelter had some great guests.

The Perkinson Family from Colonial Heights served meals to residents for the first time and Vangie Hendrickson continued her annual tradition. She and her family stopped by (with some cake and ice cream) to celebrate her birthday with the folks staying in our shelter. Thanks for visiting, everyone!

     5. We wrapped up our Red Kettle Campaign!

December 24 was the last day for kettles. We are grateful for everyone who donated, those who gave up their time to ring a bell and to Page Auto Group for supporting the campaign and providing us with transportation.
