    Week in Review – 1/7/19

Welcome to the New Year! We’re celebrating the end of a fantastic 2018 and the start of 2019. Here’s what we’ve been up in the last week.

    1. Before ushering in the New Year, we took a look back at some of the top moments of Christmas 2018.

It was hard to pick just 10, but we managed. Check out the video below to see all the Christmas magic, plus new video and interviews from distribution.

     2. We got an end-of-the-year boost.

Several supporters helped us finish 2018 on a high note by making donations before the end of the calendar year. Your gifts will allow us to serve individuals and families facing hardship in Central Virginia throughout the year.

     3. We picked up the final kettles!

Check it out – Chick-fil-A at The Shops at Willow Lawn had these three tabletop kettles at their restaurant during the holiday season. We’re grateful they wanted to join the #FightForGood – and for their customers who helped fill them to the brim! Like all red kettles, the money donated will be used to help people in need right here in our community.

     4. We introduced you to one of our chefs, Shelton.

We featured him on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Shelton has been cooking professionally since 2016 but has only been with us since September. He said he often uses his imagination when deciding what to cook for our shelter residents.

“A lot of the food here is donated, so I have to get creative,” he said. “I build a menu based on what we have in the kitchen at the time. I create a masterpiece from there.”

While he doesn’t have a favorite recipe, he does have a favorite part of the job.

“I love watching the happy faces when people enjoy the food I make,” he said.

     5. Want to help serve the delicious meals our chefs like Shelton create?
