    January – March
    January 5 – June 6 – Donuts of Hope
    Learn about The Salvation Army’s rich history of service to families in need in Central Virginia and around the world. Volunteers are needed to participate as committee members for this fund development campaign that culminates on National Donut Day. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Location in Richmond.

    January 5 – April 25 – Hoops for Health
    This 2nd year event brings youth from across Richmond to participate in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament and participate in the healthy living festival that, through the help of other local organizations, provides Church Hill residents with empowering information and actions to help them make healthy living choices. Volunteers are needed as committee members for event planning. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Location in Richmond.

    April – June
    April 26 – Hoops for Health
    Volunteers are needed on event-day to assist in all aspects of this great event.     July – September
    July-August
    The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is looking for energetic, passionate, and reliable people to help curb summer learning loss. Experience in youth development is preferred, but not necessary. The ideal candidates would be willing and able to commit to 15-20 hours a week. High school students (16 and up) looking for community service hours and college students are encouraged to apply.

    October – December
    October 13-31 – Christmas Assistance Registration
    Greet families applying for Christmas assistance, review documentation and enter family information in Salvation Army computer program for children’s name to go on Angel Tree. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Locations in Richmond and Tri-Cities.

    November 14 – December 24 – Red Kettle Volunteer
    Volunteer during The Salvation Army’s most iconic and largest annual campaign, the Red Kettle campaign. Ring a bell or play music by yourself or with family and friends to spread Christmas cheer to area shoppers. Volunteers at Red Kettles often hear stories from patrons of how The Salvation Army helped them, and soon, volunteers will have stories of their own of their work that helped change lives in Central Virginia.     November 15 – December 24 – Red Kettle Counter
    Volunteers are needed to assist in counting the amount raised in kettles the previous day. Time commitment is approximately 3 hours in the morning. Location in Richmond.

    November 27 – Thanksgiving Meal Service
    Assist in meal prep and service during community meal feeding program to community residents and shelter residents. Time commitment is approximately four hours. Locations in Richmond and Tri-Cities.

    December 15-19 – Christmas Distribution
    Meet families coming to pick-up Christmas gifts at the Christmas Warehouse. Assist in a variety of roles from shopping with families to arranging coats, sorting donations, distributing gifts to families, and helping families load gifts. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Locations in Tri-Cities and Richmond.

    On-Going Volunteer Opportunities
    Community Meals Breakfast or Dinner Service
    Help provide nutrition to close to 200 people a day coming through the community meals breakfast and dinner programs. Opportunities are open for volunteers looking to prepare and deliver meals to our kitchen and for volunteers looking to serve meals. Time commitment is approximately 2 hours. Location in Richmond.

    Disaster Relief Team
    Be a part of the Disaster Relief team that deploys to serve meals from the mobile kitchen, provide ministry to affected individuals and hand-out available supplies and clean-up kits. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Locations in Richmond and Tri-Cities.

    Teach at School of Performing Arts
    Volunteers with backgrounds in music and arts can share their knowledge with children and young adults looking to music as an escape from daily troubles and possible pathway to college and beyond. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Location in Richmond.

    Tutor & Mentor to Youth in Church Hill
    Serve as a tutor or mentor to local youth participating in recreation, education, and life skills programming daily after school at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club in Church Hill. Many children are in need of positive, uplifting role models with a listening ear who can give constructive feedback and insight. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Location in Richmond.

    Instructor at Community Education Center
    Classes offered in areas of business skills, life skills and education serve Petersburg-area residents seeking to better themselves. Instructors with a background in mathematics are especially sought after in assisting with GED prep classes. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Location in Tri-Cities.

    Office Assistant

    Assist with data-entry, volunteer cultivation & communication, statistical collection and program implementation & execution. Time commitment is up to volunteer. Locations in Richmond and Tri-Cities.
