    Appointments to schedule a time to apply for Christmas Assistance with The Salvation Army in 2019 will open in mid-September.

    Requesting Christmas Assistance

    Registration for the 2019 Christmas Assistance program will begin in mid-September. Appointments to apply will be September 23-27 for Tri-Cities residents and October 14-25 for Richmond residents. In each area, an online scheduling program will open two weeks before the first appointment date. Families should access that link on the homepage of Again this year, the furthest in advance a family will be able to apply is two weeks. Spanish speaking families in the Richmond area will schedule through the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Additional information on that scheduling will be posted here in September.

    Families MUST bring the following records with them to their appointment:

    1. Photo identification (proof of current address needed if not on I.D.)
    2. Birth certificates (to verify ages) for registered children (ages 0-14)
    3. Applicant should be prepared with all eligible children’s clothing sizes.
    4. Proof of household income (one of the following)
    • Benefits award letter from Social Services or Section 8 Housing or
    • Most current month’s paystub or
    • Benefits award letter from Employment Commission or
    • Benefits award letter from Social Security or private insurance company

    Families MUST meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

    • Experiencing a financial crisis or hardship
    • Child/children participate on free or reduced lunch program
    • Receive TANF (please bring award letter)
    • Receive SNAP (please bring award letter)
    • Low income, at/below the poverty line

    NOTE: To preserve the magic of Christmas, children are not allowed at the application site or Christmas Distribution Center.


    2019 Christmas Distribution Period & Locations

    Applicants should pick-up gifts during their appointment time, as highlighted on the confirmation sheet received at the time of registration.

     Items to bring for gift pick-up:

    • Registration Confirmation Sheet (given at registration, will have your appointment date/time highlighted)
    • Photo I.D.
