What happens when you pair a police chief, a university president, a newspaper columnist, or a Chief Operating Officer with a dance instructor? Dancing with the Valley Stars – one of the most recognized and energized events in the area!

Group dancing #44

Dancing with the Valley Stars, a fundraising event to benefit The Salvation Army Turning Point, Roanoke’s only secure center for survivors of Intimate Partner and Domestic Violence, is in its fourth year of success. Fifteen “celebrity dancers” have been chosen to perform a dance with a professional instructor. Dance genres range from Tango to Hip Hop, with line and open dancing in between for all who want to join. The result is an energy-packed evening with performances by your favorite community leaders.

In 2013, Dancing with the Valley Stars raised more than $60,000, which assisted in developing a trauma-based systems approach to helping survivors end the cycle of violence, and move toward self-sufficiency. The funds generated increased clinical support for adults and children, Child Witness of Abuse therapeutic programs, legal advocacy, and community outreach and awareness.

You can help reduce the impact of Family & Intimate Partner Violence in the Roanoke Valley by your support of The Salvation Army Turning Point.
