The need for help in the community has always been there. This year, it just happens to be greater. Due to the impact of COVID-19 in our community, The Salvation Army is setting out early to #RescueChristmas for those most in need this season. With more people in need than ever before, our mission to do the most good is even more critical.
Below are several ways you can get involved this year and help #RescueChristmas for families, individuals, and seniors facing incredible hardships this season. Your support can make their holiday season brighter. From adopting an angel to Christmas shop for, to hosting a virtual fundraising challenge, there are many ways for you to give back.
Adopt an Angel
Adopt an angel in person starting November 2nd. A full list of in-person angel locations will be added to this site shortly.
This year, you can also opt to adopt an angel online beginning November 2nd. If you prefer to adopt an angel online, click here. Gifts will still need to be delivered in person prior to distribution.
Donate at a Red Kettle Near You
The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettle Campaign supports the social service programs of The Salvation Army in Central Virginia throughout the year. Individuals and community groups volunteer to ring bells at various kettle locations in the area. Visitors are invited to drop a donation into the kettle.
This year, we are making it simpler and safer than ever to donate. Visit a red kettle stand near you and donate via Apple Pay, Google Pay or simply scan the QR code to donate online. Cash donations will still be accepted as usual.
We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and our supporters in the community while still doing the most good this holiday season. Check back soon for more information on where you can expect to see a red kettle near you.
Host a Virtual Red Kettle
The Red Kettle Challenge offers a new twist to the traditional Red Kettles seen at Christmas to raise funds for those in need in your community. With more people facing hardship this year, the need to serve those most vulnerable is greater than ever. Our ability to raise vital funds to serve those in need this Christmas and beyond is at risk due to the impact of COVID-19.
To help meet the increased need, we’re making it safer and simpler than ever for people to donate to The Salvation Army with this Red Kettle Challenge. The amount we raise with Kettles will directly affect how many families we can serve throughout the coming year. Help us bring hope to individuals and families who are struggling. We need individuals, companies, schools and churches to accept the challenge of having their own online Red Kettle – then make plans to raise $1,000 with their kettle.
